My Top 3 Summertime Drinks To Sip On
Feelin' a little thirsty in this toasty, summer heat? Try these refreshing drinks to cool off while summer is still around!
I'm not much of a drinker unless I'm out partying (then I'm suddenly a brand new person). One thing I've realized about getting older is that I have to mentally prepare for those kinds of nights because if I was getting bad hangovers at 21 then I'm going through BRUTAL hangovers now. Also why go out and party every weekend 'til 4am when you can just...sleep. LOL. SO I've slowly (but surely) become ~one of those~ that enjoys sipping on drinks on a Friday night instead of full blown clubbing or the kind of person that wants to lay on my hammock on a nice, warm afternoon chillin' on some fruity drink. Doesn't that sound so good right now? It's literally 11am and I want nothing more but to be doing that... maybe I am more of a drinker than I thought... oops.
So I know there's a ton of people that aren't into the fruity, girly drinks and like to stick with the OG Gin & Tonics or Vodka Sodas or like... Whiskey or whatever but I'm here to say no. G&Ts are cancelled for the rest of summer. All of that is cancelled. One of the best things about quarantine is HAVING. TIME. Experiment. Make errors. Fail miserably. Try again. And again. And again. Per-fect! You can apply that to literally anything in life low key (that includes becoming a self-taught home bartender). I've said this in a previous post but take advantage of this time. Our whole lives we've been saying 'I would love to do this but I don't have the time'. Honestly... I was just lazy and liked the excuse. Now I have the time. Now YOU have the time. Make it fun and worth it! So now that I'm done with all of that, let's move on to the fun stuff.
Here's how you can experiment to learn what you love (and also absolutely hate... I guess) - Alcohol Edition:
Strawberry Lemonade Slushie: Strawberry lemonade is already like, one of the greatest summer drinks of all time. You gotta be careful though because store-bought can get REALLY sweet. This is why experimenting at home is a blessing. YOU are in control of how sweet your drink is. Here's how you do it: ‣ 2 cups of strawberries ‣ 1 cup of your lemonade ‣ 2 cups crushed ice ‣ 1 shot of vodka Thats it.... add in more of whatever based on your taste. Additional sugar is optional. If you're going to use frozen strawberries, cut back on the crushed ice. Blend it all together until it's nice and smooth. Top with cut strawberries and a slice of lemon.
Watermelon & Cucumber Mojito: If you're looking for a super refreshing drink, I got you. Classic mojitos are good at any time, but when you throw in some crisp cucumber and lightly sweeten it with watermelon, you've got the ultimate drink. Here's how you do it: ‣ 1 watermelon (seeds removed or seedless) ‣ fresh mint - muddled ‣ 1/2 cucumber ‣ sparkling water (~1 bottle) ‣ 2 shots of vodka Blend / puree it all together. Squeeze some lime into it and pour over ice.
Mango White Claw Slushie: Since everyone is all into White Claws right now, this recipe is perfect. It's easy to make, it's delicious, and gets you loopy hehe. Here's how you do it: ‣ 1 can of Mango White Claw ‣ 1 cup frozen mangos (I like to throw in some strawberries, too!) ‣ 1 shot of vodka ‣ 2 cups crushed ice Blend these up nice and good together and you've got yourself a fresh and tasty drink.
Don't let this quarantine go to waste. Just because you can't be on a tropical island sipping on daiquiris while listening to the ocean waves hit the warm, soft sand (I'm crying), doesn't mean you can't bring that feeling back at home.
